A Day in The Life
An Eleventh Grader’s Day at Atlantis Academy
The everyday events at Atlantis Academy are basically the same but they can be unique. When I usually get to school around 7:50, I talk to all of my friends and get ready for the day. Each class is forty-five minutes long, giving the teachers plenty of time to cover their material. At 8:00, I go to my first class, which is Spanish. It’s not my favorite subject but here in Miami, it’s a necessity and I always learn something. Next, I go to Reading class, which is one of my favorite subjects. Mrs. Martinez always encourages us and keeps us motivated. After Reading comes a fifteen-minute break followed by Language Arts. The class is always interesting. On some days, we work together on grammar skills, while on other days; we follow through on what we worked on in reading. It’s always fun to mix up the work.
For fourth period, I have Mr. Brooks. He teaches History and always brings out the best in the work. Without him, World History would be impossible to learn. Mr. Brooks is one of my favorite teachers. He is one I can turn to if I need advice. The bell rings and it’s time for PE. In this class we play tennis, softball, basketball, football, and if we’re lucky, dodge ball. The variety of different sports always leaves us wondering what we will play today. After fifth period PE, I get to go to lunch. Sometimes I bring lunch and other times I purchase from the canteen. I sit with all my friends and we talk about how our day has been going so far. Lunch lasts for forty-five minutes just like the rest of the classes do. That gives us plenty of time to eat and socialize.
The bell rings again and it’s time for Math. Everyone works at his or her own personal speed. This way, everyone is challenged equally based on his or her level. I like Math and I’m good at it too. Right now, I am working on Algebra 2. My last class of the day is Science with Ms. Darville. Life science is an important subject, especially for me since I want to be a Veterinarian. She’s kind, but strict. I think we need it that way because it’s the end of the school day and everyone is impatient to get home.
As the day ends I feel like I’ve learned many important things, not just about my subjects but about life as well. I feel like this school really helps me grow in knowledge and maturity. I’m glad I’m here now and I plan to graduate next year.
